July 16, 2008 – San Francisco, Calif. – Upper Playground, a pioneer in streetwear fashion and the contemporary art industry, is pleased to announce the launch of its new online publication “The Citrus Report.” The new outlet will focus its attention on becoming a major monthly and daily news source for fine art and pop culture information. Whether covering internationally known artists, political figures, athletes, musicians, or providing a forum for these noted figures to converse and debate amongst each other, “The Citrus Report” publishes the inside stories that inspire people in various pop culture and social fields.
Through its network of flagship storefronts and clothing boutiques worldwide, to their expansion into housewares, film production, and book publishing, Upper Playground, along with its art gallery, FIFTY24SF, has established itself as one of the premier companies documenting contemporary art and fashion today. Having already published over 16 books, including the retrospectives “Up Until Now” and “Upper Playground Volume 1,” respectively, Upper Playground’s book publishing division has become just as integral to the company as its apparel line.
The new phase of Upper Playground’s publishing evolution exists in their new online publication, “The Citrus Report.” This month’s issue includes features from Big Brother Magazine and “Jackass” founder, Dave Carnie, hip-hop artist Aesop Rock interviewing rapper Del the Funky Homosapien, and interviews with artists Ryan Jacob Smith, Ben Tour and Basco. Next month stories will range from “Revenge of the Nerds” and “Married with Children” star, Ted McGinley, skateboard photographer Ben Colen, Swindle Magazine editor Roger Gastman, and fine artists Usugrow, Cody Hudson, and Michael Sieben. Future issues include interviews with Iron Chef contestant Chris Consentino, Staple Design’s Jeff Staple, and hip-hop artist El-P.
The Citrus Report’s content is segmented into four departments:
Main Features, which are longer articles that include investigative pieces, Q&A interviews, essays, and coverage of subjects in fine arts, music, politics, and publishing.
Monthly Columns, featuring 7-8 contributions from editors around the world including Melbourne, Sao Paulo, London, San Francisco, Portland, New York City, and Los Angeles.
News Briefs, a daily column updating readers on news makers in politics, music, fine arts, filmmaking, fashion, and publishing.
Citrus Reviews, featuring weekly reviews of the latest films, art exhibits, albums, and books.
“The Citrus Report” aims to become the online source for an entire culture and industry by producing exclusive content and entertainment. Based on the rapid expansion that Upper Playground has had in the past nine years, “The Citrus Report” has the opportunity to grow into a premier news source for all tastemakers, intellects, and pop culture aficionados.
