BMW Art Car Exhibition “Transparent Speed”

As the Mori Arts Center Gallery plays host to the latest BMW Art Car Exhibition in Tokyo, architect Jun Aoki brings forth his own interpretations to create an installation titled “Transparent Speed”. Based on anb”idea to have cars floating high up in the sky”, Aoki wanted the designs to revolve around the understanding and experiencing of speed without the usual precursors such as movement and resistance. The ultimate goal was to convey these feelings of air moving within the gallery space. To achieve this effect, 10,000 transparent polycarbonate pipes filled the gallery as they were strung from different heights from the ceiling. Other effects included lighting to re-create a sense of speed alongside the feeling of wind resistance from the pipes. The BMW Art Car Exhibition itself has featured some of the world’s most well-known artists as they feature their creativity on BMWs as their canvas. The project has featured celebrity artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and David Hockney.

Complex x N.E.R.D. x Kaws Update

You've already heard about the upcoming Complex issue featuring N.E.R.D and Lupe Fiasco. Here are a few more details on the issue, images from inside spreads designed by Kaws as well as some nice video interviews. Kaws designed the N.E.R.D story and artist Reas designed the Lupe Fiasco Story.

As much as we love the work of Kaws, we do not understand why this comes so short after his work on iD Magazine. Even though his work for iD was on another level, we still think that a bit more time in between would not have hurt anybody.

Check it out here.
