Grizzly Bear: While You Wait for the Others

At some point after Sonic Youth (or maybe for this generation it's Nirvana) albums impacted budding musicians, indie rockers saw it fit completely mandatory to fill their music with melody hidden by shrill guitar feedback and ambiguous lyrics. The protopunk influences of The Stooges combined with the avant-garde compositions from the likes of John Cale has given the indie movement a distinct and instantly recognizable sound. However, someone failed to give the Brooklyn based indie rock band Grizzly Bear the memo.

Since their 2004 freshman release "House of Plenty" has effortlessly combined lo-fi recording techniques with experimental acid folk rock and a dash of neo-psychedelia. The vocal harmonies are almost ethereal with all members lending their vocal talent which makes the band virtually sound like The Beach Boys with an indie attitude. The Grizzly Bear's new single "While You Wait for the Others" is an excellently constructed psychedelic folk pop song that begins as a whisper and builds up to a harmonizing sing along backed by acoustic guitars and softly played keyboard. The attention to tempo, lyrics, momentum and detail on this song in particular and in Grizzly Bear's entire (albeit small) catalogue in general is almost unparallel in indie rock at the moment.

Listen to the track [HERE].

Ludwig Summer '08 Cut & Sew Collection

We gave you a first look at Ludwig a while back when their Spring/Summer '08 collection landed in stores. Here we show you some alternative styles out of their lookbook, consisting of only cut & sew.

The brand is taking a step away from the bright flashy direction of streetwear and offering a cleaner more sophisticated option in mens clothing. With focus on fit as well as fabric, they are attempting to help you find that piece of clothing you could feel comfortable wearing everyday. Before looking at their clothing we can already support the approach. But the clothing is also on par with the philosophy behind the brand. Nothing too crazy, at the same time the details make all the difference. If you take a close look, you will find a twist in every piece, which at first might look the same as every other brand out there. It's always fun finding new interesting characteristics about clothing along the way.

Number one in a series of six artists is San Francisco’s Benny Gold who chose the classic 59FIFTY and actually did two versions—a black and orange San Francisco version to represent his home, and a brown and gold version to represent San Diego, the home of TWS.

Brooks Limited Edition Swallow For NYC Bicycle Film Festival

Brooks England announces collaboration with the New York City Bicycle Film Festival with the release of a limited edition Swallow. Only one hundred special Swallow models, manufactured with British racing green leather and each bearing an authentic serial number of authenticity, will be available to the public. Proceeds from sales will benefit the 8th annual Bicycle Film Festival which runs from May 28th through June 1st.

BFF Limited Edition Green Swallow features the original steel metalwork and bares a tensioning plate on the underside of the saddle which still features the original patenting information. The Swallow retains the word DEPOSÉ, meaning REGISTERED in French, on its tensioning plate. This was added, originally, as many of the saddles were exported to the continent for the use of racers and tourers alike.

The first Swallow was patented on August 20th 1936, a time when all Tour de France riders used Brooks saddles. Legends such as Girardengo, Bottecchia, Bartali, Coppi and Anquetil all rode Brooks saddles to victory and the coveted yellow jersey. Back then the arrival of the handcrafted Swallow was heralded as revolutionary as it was the first 'cut away' saddle design, giving greater freedom of leg movement to the sportive cyclist.

The 100 BFF Limited Edition Green Swallows retail for 250 $ and are sold exclusively in cooperation with the BFF in NY during the festival.

RIM Blackberry Bold

The latest Crackberry to join the family was recently unveiled. Among the leaders in PDA phones, the code named 9000 was officially bestowed the some what cheesy name Bold. Nomenclature aside, the Blackberry Bold enjoys a well deserved upgrade as the first major BB release in two years. The aesthetics are relatively the same, keeping that distinct BB look stressing what most business users will confirm, usability. The development of a new software platform goes hand in hand with the obvious hardware improvements such as HSPDA, Wifi, 625MHz CPU, 1GB internal flash memory and expandable storage up to 16 GB. While unsure of how many people defected from Blackberry to the iPhone, for those looking to return to the goodness of a solid keyboard, a new king has emerged.
